An 'ecstatic' Ramirez!

I was delighted to read today that the newest "Ramirez" on the Red Sox - Ramon Ramirez - was ecstatic to be playing for the Red Sox!  He went on to say, and I quote, "I couldn't be happier right now".  Let's hope that a year from now he will be just as happy!  I know that he is still on that "traded high" - going to a team that WILL still be in the thick of it come next October - but I was encouraged to hear him say that he'll do whatever the team wants him to do regardless of what inning they ask him to come in.  After the antics of that "other" Ramirez (Manny who?) he is a "breath of fresh air" AND he is excited that the fans give the team so much support!  So we don't have to worry about sitting quietly and air-clapping when he pitches.  Very nice.

His numbers aren't bad.  With the Royals last year he had an ERA of 2.64 and struck out 70 over 71 2/3 innings.  He should fit in nicely with Delcarmen & Okie.  And who knows where Masterson's place on the team will be.  Starter? Relever?  That remains to be seen.

I'm excited to see Ramon end up in Boston.  There's no question that the trade came quickly and we will miss Coco Crisp.  I feel confident that this is one trade, come next September, we'll be happy we made.  So Mr. Ramon Ramirez, this member of Red Sox Nation bids you a fond welcome to Bean Town.  And a word of advice - don't ever do anything that might make us utter the phrase "That's Ramon being Ramon".  Remember that and we will all get along fine!
