Who the heck is Evan Grant?

I was reading an article in the Boston Globe this morning - about Pedroia winning the AL MVP yeah! - and it said there was on voter who left Pedroia off his MVP ballot.  That voter was Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.  Now if I read te article correctly, the voters can vote for up to 10 players on their ballots ranking them in order from 1-10.  Mr. Grant - you didn't think that our Dustin deserved even one of your votes?  You said, and I quote from Amalie Benjamin's article in the 11/19/08 Boston Globe - "I had him on my ballot in some scenarios as high as No. 1 late in Spetember.  When I looked at the numbers that to me mattered most, OPS and batting average average with runners in scoring position, he just didn't stack up with Youkilis at all.  He was a laggard behind the others who had great years in the American League"  Pedroia was a "laggard" Mr. Grant?  Did you even watch any of the Red Sox games?  I will give you credit for saying "I think the best way for me to sum it up is, in retrospect, obviously I was wrong."  But I'm sorry, I can not even fathom how you didn't think that Pedroia was worthy of being in you top ten.  Maybe next year, if you're still voting, you might want to expand the criteria that you use for voting.  It would appear that all the other voters did and in this Red Sox Fan opinion, they got it right!

Hey Julia--a belated welcome to mlblogs!

Grant got it wrong and he knows it. Now he's a fool like George King of the NY Post who didn't vote for Pedro Martinez a few years back because he doesn't vote for pitchers to be MVPs.

By the way, Pedroia's a fine upgrade to either of the two Texas teams.

That's unbelievable. He must have considered one player a team, and he just thought that Youk was the best player for the Sox. Of course, that would be a completely ridiculous and nonsensicle way to fill out your MVP ballot, and a sportswriter like that should be stripped of their voting rights and be demoted from the sports section down to writing obituaries and police log.

So I guess this is the guy who left Destroya off his ballot? I mean, if he didn't think that he should win first, he's entitled to his own opinion, but to not even rank him in the top ten... that's a little much.

Hey Steve - thanks for the welcome. And yo'ure right; Grant has some serious backpedaling to do. And yes, the two Texas teams might want him - but he's one of "us" and hopefully will be for a very long time!------------------------------

Dan - but would we want him writing the obits? What if he got that wrong too?? I agree with striping him of his voting rights. If one team has two deserving players then they both deserve to receive votes.

Elizabeth - I'm with you; not even top ten? Seriously, did he even watch a Red Sox came! And I can't get pass calling Dustin a "laggard"! Maybe they're just jealous in Texas!

The guy obviously made a mistake / error and just left him off the ballot, but he actually tries to defend this. Here is a clip:
