Am I Fan of the Game?
You all know which team I love - my Red Sox...

and I think you all know that I pride myself on accepting that other teams have fans that are just as passionate about them as I am about my Red Sox. You all know how I feel about players who do things to hurt this game. I love this game! Those who use steroids and drugs and try to cheat are not okay in my book. You know that. BUT I am also very clear on one thing - I do not root for all other teams equally. And I think you can guess which team I rarely - if ever - find myself rooting for. Do I even need to tell you....

So does that mean that I am not a fan of baseball? That I do not exhibit "good sportsmanship" because I am not rooting for the Yankees now that the Red Sox are out? Am I wrong to say things like "I hope the Angels win?" Or to tease my friend by telling him that I liked the end of game five of the ALCS? Do Doger fans root for the Giants? Do Cubs and Cardinals fans root for the other team? Will Mets' fans ever pull for the Yankees to win the WS?

Can't I be a fan of the game AND a fan of the Red Sox at the same time? Did I miss the rule that said that when the Red Sox are out of the playoffs that I have to root for the Yankees or hope that they win? If you think that is rude or disrespectful or unsportsmen like, then so be it. You will never find me being rude or disrespectful to other teams and their fans on my blog - but if you think that by my saying I hope one team wins over another that makes me less of a fan of this game that I so very much love - then all I can say is I feel sorry for you. For you have no idea what it is like to feel a passion for a team that you call your own.
And speaking of teams that I am passionate about...

The New England Patriots traveled across the Pond - with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - and the Pats won 35-7. (I know that Rays Renegade was hoping for a different outcome.) It is the second week in a row that the Patriots have taken on a winless team and both times they have won convincingly. Though the Pats did not look as sharp this week as they did last week against the Titans. Today Tom Brady was intercepted twice and he did not come out of the game until the 4th quarter.

You can't really say though, that Brady had a bad day. He threw for 302 yards (the 26th time in his career that he has thrown for more then 300 yards) and he also threw 3 TD passes. Brandon Meriweather had two interceptions, including one that he ran back 39 yards for a TD and much like last week, the Pats "spread the love" when it came to scoring TDs. In addition to Meriweather's TD, TDs were also scored by Wes Welker, Sam Aiken, Benjamin Watson and Laurence Maroney. The Pats now have a bye week before they face the Miami Dolphins at home.

And tonight - Sunday night - we have game 6 of the ALCS. The New York Yankees vs the LA Angels. Joe Saunders vs Andy Pettitte. Game 5 was exciting down to the very last out and I suspect that tonight's game won't be any different. The Yankees lead the series 3-2 and the games has sifted back to New York. Both teams want this series badly - the Yankees missed out on the playoffs last year and the Angels are dedicating this season to a fallen teammate. Who will win? I don't know. But I have said this before - if the Angels win game 6, I think they will take the series. I can't wait for the game to begin!

If somebody told you that you weren't a fan of baseball then they are the biggest moron around.
They're a PLENTY of "fans" who don't watch baseball anymore when there team isn't playing. Those are NOT baseball fans.
Me, I am right with you on not rooting for the Yankees. Mostly because I hate A-Rod and don't want him to EVER win a World Series. Also, because most Yankee fans are just so obnoxious, more so it seems this season, and want them to feel another crushing ALCS loss. Haha.
However, I will continue to watch baseball, whoever is playing. This 2 days in a row with out baseball sucked. And I am not looking forward to about 2 weeks from now when there will be no more baseball to watch. Gah!!!
LET'S GO ANGELS!!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time cheering for the Angels since there is only one LA baseball team.

I would never expect you to cheer for the Yankees...well, maybe when you lose a wager (as you often do!). ;) I know, you'll be back for revenge in 2010. But until then, I can enjoy the Yankees return to the World Series...the trip that was originally scheduled for 2004 but was abruptly cancelled! I know, you've just become a Phillies fan, and you've probably pulled out your old Pedro Martinez #45 Red Sox jersey. It should be a great World Series...and the State of New Jersey is certainly not going to complain about the revenue generated on the New Jersey Turnpike!

I enjoyed this post. And of course you know the answer to your own questions, as you're a long time Sox fan and baseball fan. All the fun of watching these baseball games is what it's all about, even when it's not your own team. Looking forward to Phillies, especially Pedro!!

Julia,
I would NEVER question you not being a fan of the game. And the answer is NO,NO,NO, NO, a Dodger fan NEVER roots for the Giants. May the Giants W.S. throphy in S.F. continue to be empty.

Julia,
a funny sidebar to that Bucs debacle is that the Buc owners also own Manchester United soccer team, and they got beat by the English Premier team that has a indirect relationship with the Red Sox.
AL East must have gone way east in this fight.
But that is also fine, because if you saw the game, they played like the 1979 Bucs who used to wear the creamsicle uniforms.
BTW, I am a fan of baseball, but not of the two teams in the World Series. I am watching Rays replays on MLB.com during the World Series.
